Journal Club holds first meeting

The first meeting of the Aquatic Animal Welfare Journal Club led by Dr Timothy Wiese was held on 23rd September 2024 on TEAMS. The paper up for discussion was “Current issues in fish welfare” by Huntingford et. al. (2006). Discussion covered the three main perspectives on animal welfare (Biological functioning, affective stage and natural living), the trade-offs that are inevetably encountered when considering welfare in aquaculture systems, and the problems in reducing welfare assessments to practical yet relatively simple scoring sytems.
